Vol. 1, No. 2.  July, 2009.

We hope that you found some useful information in our first newsletter.  As always, we welcome feedback, questions and comments, not just about the newsletter subjects but any issues relating to bird control in general.

In this edition we compare two liquid bird repellents.

While minimizing damage is the primary objective in any animal control situation we must also consider the welfare of the animals causing the problem as well as the cost.  The use of nonlethal control methods, such as liquid bird repellents, are in almost all cases, much more acceptable to both the affected parties and the general public at large. But such operations must also be cost efficient.  Consequently, a comparison of the available products is vital to ensure all round success in any bird control operation.

The first questions we are asked when talking about Bird Shield Repellent® are:

“Does it work and how much does it cost?”

The answer to the first question is simple.  Before we were able to obtain EPA registration they required extensive testing to prove the efficacy of the product and to satisfy all of the claims we make for it.  Thus, we are confident from the results obtained from both our in-house testing and independent field trials that it works extremely well when used as directed.

The answer to the second question is slightly more complex.  Bird Shield® is significantly less expensive than any similar product (see the following table).  Further, when the value of the crop is considered and the very substantial increases in yield, coupled with the reduction in the amount of harvested but damaged crops that are obtained when Bird Shield® is used, the cost of treatment is regained many times over.  Similarly, in situations where Bird Shield® is used to minimize damage to structures, to reduce damage to turf and recreation areas or to minimize the possibility of bird strikes to aircraft, the benefits obtained substantially outweigh the costs of its use.
