Established by Dr. Leonard Askham in 1994, Bird Shield® Repellent Corporation was founded on key research conducted at Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Research Centers around the United States of America. This research, based on the founder's discovery that methyl anthranilate, a natural chemical in Concord grapes, was found to be unpalatable to birds yet harmless to them. As many species of birds create major pest problems throughout the world the development of an effective but non-hazardous repellent spray, which would protect crops and facilities, offered great potential benefits. After nine years of research and development to assure its reliability and safety Bird Shield® was patented and approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as the first biodegradable, "reduced risk" pesticide for general use by the public.

The company's research and development continues today with an active research laboratory while field testing services around the world are supported through our various governmental, university and industry contacts. We were the first and continue to be "The Standard" that everyone tries to imitate.

Our Marketing and Sales facilities are located in San Francisco to capitalize on its rich business and financial resources. The company's technical branch is located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest's agricultural community of Pullman, Washington; the home of Washington State University and overseen by Dr. Askham. Our production plant and distribution points are strategically located throughout the U.S. to provide rapid delivery by the most convenient and least expensive means. With a growing number of International Distributors servicing users faced with significant economic and social problems caused by birds we continue to expand to meet the world's need for a reliable, effective and proven biodegradable, non-toxic, bird repellent.
