EFFECTIVE BIRD CONTROL FOR WILD RICE
Fifteen wild rice fields near Sacramento, California, were used for this trial. Four of the fields were randomly chosen as untreated controls in order to compare the production of the11 Bird Shield repellent treated fields. One pint of BIRD SHIELD® per acre was applied with a fixed wing aircraft once at the beginning of the month long trial. A second application was cancelled when it was noted that all of the birds had vacated the fields. Mature plants were harvested from thing 10, 2 foot square plots in the interior of each field for a total of 150 samples. All of the plants were oven dried, the seed removed and weighed. The combined repellent treated fields produced approximately 59% more grains (2,000 lbs/acre) than the untreated field (1,200 lbs/acre).
